Lissajous Figures

I’m seriously geeking out with Lissajous figures created by an oscilloscope today. I saw the figures produced on a video that was describing Just Intonation versus Equal Temperament. On my list of graphics to make is a card reading “Sending Healing Vibes” and I’ve been looking for a way to attractively represent sound waves to go with the words. Lissajous figures to the rescue. Based on the oscilloscope output, I drew three figures in Adobe Illustrator, one each for the tonic, dominant, and mediant chords. I placed my text, did a mask onto a gradient rectangle to get the shading, and used Intertwine to let one Lissajous figure wind in and out of the words. I think it makes the words feel wrapped in sound and good vibes, which is what I want to convey in a card that is sending hope for healing.

Spot Healing Brush Tool

In the Photoshop arsenal is an icon of a Bandaid labeled “Spot Healing Brush Tool” that removes marks and blemishes. They aren’t kidding. It worked wonders on the bright spots on this spectacular moon photograph my neighbor took after our recent storm.

“The moon’s halo or lunar halo is an optical illusion that causes a large bright ring to surround the moon. This striking and often beautiful halo around the moon is caused by the refraction of moonlight from ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.” – https://www.space.com/moon-halo
